About Flood Bay State Wayside
Flood Bay is a small state wayside on Lake Superior about two miles northeast of Two Harbors, and it is the best-known agate hunting beach on this stretch of the North Shore. The cobble here is worked and sorted by the lake, and after a storm the beach is picked over by people who know exactly what they are looking for.
It is also one of the better wave-watching spots close to town. When a northeast wind pushes seas onto this shore, Flood Bay gets the full effect within a two-minute drive of Two Harbors.
Facilities are minimal: parking, shoreline access, and the beach itself. That is the point. For residents it is the quick stop on the way home rather than a destination, and it is where most Two Harbors households take visitors first.
