About St. Louis River Alliance

The St. Louis River Alliance works on the protection and restoration of the St. Louis River estuary, the shared water body between Duluth and Superior and one of the Great Lakes Areas of Concern targeted for cleanup under the binational restoration program.

The estuary's condition is one of the genuine environmental stories of this region: a century of sawmills, steel, coal, and shipping left substantial contamination, and the multi-decade remediation effort has been reopening habitat and public access along both shores.

For residents of the river neighborhoods on either side of the state line, the Alliance's cleanups, monitoring, and stewardship days are the most direct way to be involved.
